How did you get started with CrossFit?
I was looking for an exercise program that would help me be more accountable and actually get a good work out. An internet search landed me here. I’d never heard of CrossFit before.
Favorite and least favorite WOD and/or movement?
I really love all the weightlifting, it’s something I never imagined myself doing. I struggle with pull ups and muscle ups.
Give us a long term AND short term fitness goal?
Short term I want to improve my upper body strength, I’d like to be able to do “real” push-ups. Long term, I just want to be as fit and healthy as I can be.
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and not sure whether they should give it a try or not?
Give it a try. When I first started, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up with everyone and that it would be too hard, but by scaling everything I was able to participate and get a really good workout.
What is your proudest CrossFit accomplishment thus far?
I feel proud every time I finish a hard WOD. I go in thinking its going to be impossible, and leave feeling amazed I did it.
If you could workout with ANYONE…who would it be and why?
I love working out with my daughter Lily. It was amazing having her work out with me over the summer.
If you could have dinner with 3 people, any lifetime, who and why?
Stephen King, John Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres. Just for the conversation.
What do you love most about North Durham CrossFit?
The people. It’s cliché, but the people are what make it amazing. The support and encouragement I get from the coaches and classmates is what keeps me coming back.
What is your favorite quote and/or motto…one that you live by?
“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears” –Nelson Mandela
How has CrossFit changed your life?
In so many ways. I am fitter, stronger, more flexible and healthier than I have been in years. Going to CrossFit improves my mood, and just makes me happier overall.
