Brenda D.

North Durham CrossFit proudly puts Brenda D. in the spotlight. Brenda has been a core member of our CrossFit gym since the beginning in 2008. She is consistent in showing up to the gym almost everyday and even hits a gym when she is out of town. She is one of the strongest athletes we have both mentally and physically. There have been so many members who have commented, “I want to be like Brenda when I grow up” or “I am just trying to keep up with Brenda”. She is always willing to try new things and when she can’t get it the first time, her goal is to keep working until she can get it. When Brenda is not at the gym, she is usually on the golf course or spending time with her friends and family. Thanks Brenda, for sharing some of your time with your CrossFit family.

How did you get started with CrossFit? My daughter introduced me to CrossFit in 2008.
Favorite and least favorite WOD and/or movement? My favorite type of WOD’s are chippers. I also like partner wod’s. My least favorite movements are snatches and hang cleans.
Give us a long term AND short term fitness goal? My long term goal is to continue with CrossFit so that when I’m in my 70’s and 80’s, I will still have my good health and still living in my own home. ( with my husband, I hope). Short term is to work on specific lifting moves, such as snatches and cleans.
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and not sure whether they should give it a try or not? You MUST give it a try and not just one class. Commit to at least one week. CrossFit is unique, hard, challenging, and rewarding
What is your proudest CrossFit accomplishment thus far? Learning to climb the rope. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. But, with great coaching and determination, I DID IT.
Tell us something about you that nobody knows, preferably an embarrassing story! My nickname growing up was Frog. I began wearing glasses at age 3. All of my friends called me “frog eyes” and it stuck. So much so, that my brothers, nieces, nephews, still call me Frog or Aunt Frog.
If you could have dinner with 3 people, any lifetime, who and why? My Mother and Father. I miss them. My Mother’s parents. I never had the pleasure of knowing them. Phil Mickelson : he’s my favorite professional golfer
What do you love most about North Durham CrossFit? The coaches and the members. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. I have met so many wonderful people.
What is your favorite quote and/or motto…one that you live by? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
How has CrossFit changed your life? I’m 63 years old and CrossFit has given me the opportunity to be in the best shape of my life. I’ve always been active throughout my whole life, but when I started going to CrossFit, my fitness ability went to new level. I can run farther, lift weights, do a pull-up, climb a rope, row, flip tires, swing kettle bells , jump rope, step on a 20” box, and much more. I can’t believe it’s almost been 9 years since I began CrossFit and I love it as much today as I did back in 2008.
