Mele B.

Mele starts his day out in the 6:00am class each day before heading to Northern High School to teach young, bright minds. Mele has helped us with our New You Challenge, was team captain for our CrossFit Open Intramural, and helped coordinate a fun run for the NC Autism Society. We thank Mele for his continued leadership and positive spirit.

How did you get started with CrossFit? I have always liked to be healthy and fit, before CrossFit I used to go to the gym and try to lift weights. Many times, it was boring, later on, I tried boot camp, aerobics, trx among other classes.
a CrossFit Box Opened close to where I lived In Mexico puebla and I joined. This was late December 2013.
Favorite and least favorite WOD and/or movement?
Favorite movement Snatch
Least favorite movement power clean
Give us a long term AND short-term fitness goal?
Short term goal is to keep coming 4 or 5 times a week, even with very busy school schedule.
Long term I hope to have flexibility, balance and endurance when I am 70 years old
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and not sure whether they should give it a try or not?
CrossFit is a great community. Coming from Mexico and knowing none, NDCF community has been amazing, I have meet great friends within the CF community, It’s a non-judgmental community and member always will support and make you a better athlete.
What is your proudest CrossFit accomplishment thus far?

Tell us something about you that nobody knows, preferably an embarrassing story!
· I like pink unicorns.
If you could workout with ANYONE…who would it be and why?
I’d love to work out again with Jamie Nippgen. She was my first friend in Durham and made me feel welcome. I love and miss her so much.
If you could have dinner with 3 people, any lifetime, who and why?
My dad and my brother, who died over 15 years ago and I did not have the chance to say goodbye, and my mother who I am sure would love to spend some time with all of us. And I know you say 3, but Neil, my husband, must come along. I am sure my father and brother absolutely would love him and he has to pay the Bill.
What do you love most about North Durham CrossFit?
· Pat and Suzie
· I love working out among friends.
· I like that the coaches are knowledgeable, and the facilities are great.
What is your favorite quote and/or motto…one that you live by?
My motto is Neil. I am a very lucky man to have such a great man as a life partner. He is caring, hardworking and always is there in happy times and sad times.
How has CrossFit changed your life?
It has given me a lot energy and mental endurance to get through life.
